Question Computer logs in then instantly back out. HELP!!!

OK I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with Win2K Pro. I got a bad virus on it. When you boot the computer it lets you log on, Loads personal settings, you see the wallpaper and then WHAM you are back at the log in screen. NO MATTER what mode you try this is the result. Last good config is bad too. I want to reformat the computer and have all the restore disks but I can't seem to figure out how to get started. I put the CD in and in the boot sequence set it to boot from CD first. that did nothing. Made a or well the 4 boot floppies. that did nothing. How do I do this??? Its driving me crazy.

So when you try to boot from the disc or disks it just goes straight to loading Windows? Or does it attempt to read the disc/disks but fails?

When you attempted to boot from the floppy disks did you set the boot order correctly for that drive?

Where did you get the 4 setup floppy disks, did you freshly make them recently or have you had them laying around for a while?

I'm just asking a few questions to verify the exact problem. Typically this problem is related to a bad optical drive that the user never realized was bad until they needed to boot from a recovery disc. BUT in your case it is weird that you are having problems with both the optical and floppy.

Let us know a little more and we'll try to get you going.

Check out this web page. I just used it to reformat my old Dell 2400 & it didn't require any disc; the program was built into the Dell system. Maybe it will get you going

Zero fill the hard drive with http://dban.org. Burn the iso file to a cd with imgburn or cdburnerxp. Both are free downloads.

Then start the process with your recovery discs.
