    Installation Loop

    Hi Folks,

I have been trying to install 2000 Pro over windows 98. It goes through the entire process then when it gets to the last one , updating prgrams and settings it stops and starts ALL over again from the beginning of the installation, with no prompt oppurtunity.

It has been through this loop 6-7 times. I just turned it off.

Is there a DOS prompt that I can get to the DOS level and reinstall 98 of XP ?

    Any other ideas?
    :?
    Thanks
    Barry

Why are you installing OVER 98, Are you trying to dual boot that system?

You can do a clean install. If this is an upgrade, you will need your 98 CD.

    Thanks for your reply

    Thanks davpurc,

I was trying to install 2000 on this machine, upgrading from 98. I did pick clean install. Once again I connot get out of the loop.

If I take out the Install CD I get this error:

"An error has encountered that prevents Setup from continuing.

Setup failed to install the products catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information."

Can I get to the dos level after start-up?

Should I put in the 98 CD at start-up

    Thanks
    Barry

Windows could be having problems installing a device. You COULD yank all of the cards out and reinstall them one at a time when Windows finally loads.

Just make sure you do a clean install.
