My PC was working fine one day then next day i switch it on and this happens: it takes ages to detect IDE drives then boots up as normal but stays on the windows loading screen. So I switched off to try again and the message "unable to boot insert system disk & enter, did this and got that the recovery console doesn't recognise hard drive and "repair" but I dont know what to do next should I select repair ? Is my hard drive knackered the PC is not even a year old yet.I have checked that the IDE cables are all in properly.
I am using windows XP Pro
Thanx for any help

Have you been in the BIOS? Does the BIOS see the hard drive?
You could try the diagnostic startup by pressing the F8 key several times while booting. This will give you a chance to see WHERE the startup process is halting. This might not even work.
If the BIOS doesn't see the hard drive, and if the hard drive WAS working in the current configuration, then the drive might have failed.
Do whatever you can using the Windows disk, but keep in mind that data might be lost depending on the choices you make.

I wish you luck. seems to me the hard drive is the problem.
go to the hard drive manufacturers' web site, download the disk checking utility. (eg. westerndigital.com, seagate.com, maxtor.com, hitachi.com...)
use that utility to confirm whether the hard drive is broken.
Assumes you hard drive is broken, before you contact the manufacturer for a replacemnet, make sure the data are not important.
If those data are important, contact me and I will help to get your data back.

when computer wont boot up
boot up with the boot up floppy in the floppy drive. After its done you will be in a: drive switch to your cd rom drive. place your operating system cd in and run it, of course you have to have all the data thats important for you all ready backed up, because you are going to lose it. Once the cd is installed, your computer will be ready for u to use. good luck.
