Help. I can't open my programs and other problems.

    I know I have a virus.

I can't open ****.....not even volume control or Notepad. Everytime I try to open something, I get a black command prompt box that quickly disappears after. I'm surprised that I'm even able to open Firefox. The other day, I couldn't. I ran Malware Bytes before all of this happened, and I had 11 infected files. I thought everything had cleared up, but about a day later everything started acting funny again.....worse than ever. Another thing with my browser is whenever I google a site and try to go to it....I get redirected to some random unrelated site. I can only go to a site if I type the url in manually. Two of my keys are loose too......and one is the "enter" key. Can all of this be fixed? Pleeeeease.....someone help.

Sidenote: Be honest.....how would you rate this laptop:

    Dell Inspiron 17" 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, 9-Cell PC Tune-Up, DVD - QVC.com

I know it's not the mother of all laptops, but do you think it's a fairly good one? If I have to get a new one, I'm thinking of getting that one since they have the easy payment plan. I'm broke and need something that's not too shabby, but affordable right now.....because I really can't do **** on this laptop but browse. My dream laptop is a Macbook....and unless I can find a really good monthly plan for a Macbook, then it's out of the question right now. I currently have a 15 in Dell Inspiron 1501.....I can't complain since it was a Xmas gift from my parents. I guess it's an entry level laptop. I've had it for about 2 years. It does basic things..... I need something that's gonna have a little bit more power.

    Thanks

Can you get into System Restore and turn it off? The virus is most likely hiding there. Rerun Malwarebytes from Safe Mode with Networking after turning off System Restore.

As for the loose keys, should just be a matter of replacing the keyboard. Do a Google search for replacement keyboards.

Your link is broken. I would suggest looking at Dell's website for that laptop. You might get a better deal or better financing if that is a concern. Check their Outlet store as well.

I can't even run Safe Mode or any mode except normal. Is there any other way of getting into Safe Mode without restarting and entering the menu? Every time I try to select Safe Mode it acts as if it's about to boot in Safe Mode, then it takes me back to the menu again. It just refuses to let me boot up any other way.

I would suggest starting a new thread asking for opinions on the new Dell Inspiron you are thinking about buying and not intermix it with the malware issue on the other computer - it gets rather confusing.

With the virus infected computer what is the make and model? What is the operating system? Do you have the manufacturer recovery disks? Do you have an XP (or Vista if applicable) installation disk?

From another compute download and burn a Kaspersky Rescue Disk. Set the infected computer's BIOS to boot first from CD and run the scan. It may clean up enough to get you back into Normal and Safe mode for additional clean up.

Slave your infected drive into a fully protected and updated pc. Run Malwarebytes on the infected drive. If this is not an option, give Pablo's suggestion a shot.

Sorry it took so long to respond back. I tried Pablo's suggestion. The scan actually detected Trojan viruses. It said that it disinfected the files and deleted some, but when it rebooted, it was back at square one. I still can't open anything, it doesn't detect my wi-fi connection (my connection is fine since I can still get on xbox and other stuff), and that popup keeps popping up, telling me I have a virus. It's the Antivirus popup that keeps trying to get me to buy that software. I was kinda hopeful w/ this scan. I'm not for sure how I would do the other suggestion. Would the reinstallation cd work? Does that clean everything off? Anyway....I'm in dire need of a new laptop. It's my only computer for now. I think I'm just gonna get a new one and worry about this later. I don't wanna invest a lot of money into fixing it. My mom told me to take it to the same man that cleaned her computer off....but he charged her $200 The laptop is an entry level laptop that is over 2 years old....coming this Christmas will be 3.

    Thanks

You or any other user should be able to restore your laptop with the cd's that are supplied with the new machine. I would be mad as a hornet if someone simply restored my pc and charged me $200.

Do you have any disks that came with your laptop when it was new? If not try going to the mfgs website and looking for instructions on creating a recue cd. If there is something you find that you don't understand copy the url and post it back here and someone will try to interpret it for you.

Ok.....I made a Bit Defender rescue disc after I used the Kaspersky one. Bit Defender cleaned off 11 (or 12....can't remember) Trojan files. After that, I booted up and my desktop was setup like this old school basic Windows.....my volume was still gone, and my wi-fi still can't connect. It still can't detect that I have Wi-fi. It refuses to let me set up a wireless connection. i think when I first got the wireless router, I don't remember doing anything. I think it just naturally detected it. The button on the keyboard to turn on wi-fi won't even come on. I can't even go into standby or hibernation mode either. It's like my laptop was stripped of basic functions and replaced with a setup from 1990. Out of desperation, I re-installed Windows XP. It wiped everything clean. I mean.....everything was gone. My desktop only had a recycling bin on it. My programs were just basic items like WordPad, Paint, etc. I tried to save a few files from my harddrive, but it wouldn't even let me do that before I re-installed XP. Luckily I had already moved most of my important files to an external harddrive about a month before this all happened. Do you think my laptop is done? Regardless.....I just went ahead and ordered a new one arriving next Thursday. It will have windows 7 on it. If my old laptop is still good, would I be able to install my Windows 7 disk on it? Sorry, if that's a dumb question.

Ps....your Crimson Tide killed my Game****s last Sat.

You can be proud of your Gamecox. They are able to say that late in the fourth they were within 7. And they came close to scoring again. I think the only reason they didn't use a 2 minute offense was from fear of a possible turnover.

Have you tried using system restore? If there are no restore points at a time before this happened the malware probably is to blame. Without the cd's from the factory theres not much you can do. Now that the most, if not all the viruses are gone, see if Last known Good configuration will work. Just try LKGC before System Restore.
