Replaced the 430W Thermaltake PSU with a 650W Antec. No changes. So we can rule out PSU.
Now it would seem it's either the mobo or the RAM. Tomorrow I'm going to try to remove a stick and try them individually to see if that could be the problem, and if not the RAM then I would have to assume the mobo. Before I do this, does anyone have any other ideas I should try? Bearing in mind I still don't have access to my CD drive (surprisingly can't find a spare IDE cable in my cable bag to test *that* either, so that's something else for tomorrow.)
There is a jumper at the back of the DVD ROM, remove that and let the system to recognize the drive automatically again.
That will be a good try to test the DVD on other working PC as well.
Power off the PC and unplug the power cord, holding down the power button over 20 seconds to discharge and reset the PC.
Then plug the power cord back and get to the BIOS, reset the BIO to the factory default. Check to see if the BIOS sees the DVD ROM drive.
Reseat all data cables and the CPU with RAM as well.
Hope this helps!
