    Interesting Site

My mother of all people found this site and told me about it. She knows someone that buys stuff off of it and they say it is completely legit. It's like eBay but all the items are goodwill donations that are being auctioned off.

    shopgoodwill.com - Welcome

I looked through the computer and electronics listings and found quite a bit of good stuff. I'm not sure how many people on here like to buy older computers to fix up and resell or if anyone likes to buy junk laptops to strip for parts but if you do then this site maybe just for you. There are also a ton of listings for legacy video games and systems.

Just thoght I would share that site with everyone.

The most I ever found at a goodwill store as far as computer stuff was an Okidata dot matrix printer in excellent condition. I paid 5 bucks for it and tested it out and it worked like NEW. Two days later I sold it to a customer for $200 dollars!! That was about 5 years ago and to my knowledge that printer is still going strong and the customer is still happy as all ever!

Oh and my wife found an old "clicky" style metal keyboard there and paid a few bucks and sold it on eBay for $50. Otherwise all we've found there since is old CRT monitors, old inkjet printers, keyboards, and a typewriter or two, none of which were even worth the goodwill asking price so we really haven't been back.

The only thing we have close to where I live is an American Thrift Store. I rarely venture in there because it's packed tighter than Wally World. About once a year I'll go look for baseball gloves, and I've never once seen computer equipment of any type there. I guess they don't have anyone who works there that can tell if pc parts are working or not.

I would have never even thought about going to a goodwill store to look for old computer stuff but a good friend of mine got into some trouble with the law, he was sentenced to community service and was required to work at the goodwill store for about a month. Anyway he would intercept the computer stuff that came in and would set it to the side until I could come and look through it. It was pretty cool that I had an inside connection to hold stuff for me but then my freind got fired from the community service job for buying a trustee prisoner a cell phone .... what can I say, my friend is an idiot!!

Funny you should mention thrift type stores that handle electronics. I worked at a major center that took in donations and processed them to 5 thrift stores in this county. Besides the tons of clothing and bric a brac you would be amazed at the electronics. All of the crt monitors, t.v's and towers that were obvious junk got converted to cash as E-waste thru the state. The monitors actually have a redemption value as long as the state stays solvent. There's other parts of the sales process that include an as-is auction and of course the stores. But I was amazed at times to see excellent computers and stereo equipment. At the end of my time there I recall a set of Polk Audio speakers that were 3 grand new we sold them for 500. The store manager was surprised we were able to get that much.
