    Total loss of sound

Hi all my sound has gone! about a year ago lost mic sound but wasnt too worried now i have no sound at all, have gone through windows help and gone through all of it in the end it says take to dealer. many of the stages of this help werent actually viable as were grey. it almost seems as though I have no sound card at all. Help would be appreciated! I have windows 98 sec ed if this is any use.

Navigate to Control Panel, System, then to device manager. Are there errors next to your sound card? What do they say?
