    Google searches redirected?

Has anyone else heard that Google links were being redirected to malicious sites? I got an email from ZoneAlarm warning me, but it also said to be fully protected I had to buy their product because the free version didn't protect against the threat. I deleted it and can't recall what the name of the malware was, it seems like it was like "gumblar" or something. Anyone know about it?

Gumblar is a botnet that infects Web servers and infected Web site visitors for the purposes of installing malcode on Personal Computers that redirects end-user Google searches to fraudulent Web sites.

I rememered the article in PC world

Wow, I can't believe I got the name right. Thanks for the link, I was afraid to google it. I know there are other search engines, I just forgot what their names were. Using the drop down menu in Opera to change to another one looks kinda hard too.

It seems like with the boatloads of money Google has they would be able to track that stuff like the IN ESS-AY (I don't want their filter to trace their name to me and start monitoring my communications) and fix it before their name became involved. Too bad people that can create stuff like that don't have better things to do with their time.

Gumblar is quite a malicious infection. We've ran into a few of these on customers computers in the past few months.

A way that we've been able to temporarily get around it in order to install support software and the programs needed to remove this was to use an alternate browser than the one infected. We've been able to use that to our advantage quite a bit.

Generally I just run Hijack This is pull it out piece by piece and let the registry cleaner and Mal-ware Bytes take care of the rest.
