    Memory problems with Microstar MS-6316

Hi all, im new to the board so bear with me )

Basically, ive got a problem with my MS-6316 motherboard. I recently purchased some PC100 256MB 168 pin DIMMs for the 2 slots that are on the motherboard but they refuse to work. With the original memory in place (PC100 128MB DIMMs, it boots in with no problems, but with the new memory in in wont even power on the monitor. I have had the memory chips tested and both are working fine. I have flashed the bios to the newest version (1.2), and even tried with PC133 chips. The motherboard guide advises that it accepts both of these types of memory up to 512MB. I have tried 1 chip iduvidually in each slot but still no joy. I have emailed the tech support of MSI but they have not been very helpful. I hope someone out there has a solution for me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Daz

I've had that problem in the past. Buying over-the-counter-memory is sometimes hit or miss. When you first power up the system, you get no beep codes and the screen is blank. Occasionally, you might get a tiny flashing crusor in the upper left corner.

I promptly return the memory and go through http://www.crucial.com. They will send you the exact memory you need.
