The System Restore errors are caused by disabled services - I had the same problem with MS automatic updates.
-Click on the pearl then type "Services" in the search box (Don't type in the quotes, of course).
-Right click on Services (with the gears beside it) and pick Run As Administrator (I don't know if this in necessary, but I run everything in Vista as admin...That way programmes have an XP feel to them and actually, you know, work.)
-Head down the list to "Volume Shadow Copy", double click on it and enable it if it's not enabled.
-Then go back up the list a bit to "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider" and double click on it to enable it if it's disabled.
After that, I went back to the control panel and, voila - a successful restore point was created.
I didn't have to restart the computer to make this work, but that might be necessary for some.
Oh, and FireFox kicks IE's behind in every single way. (:
Happy Vista hacking, y'all!
Hi,
Chang some registry value in Windows Vista, add the following registry entry under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices\Offline registry subkey in Windows vista.
Value name: \DosDevices\D:
Type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 1
Hope you able to open System Restore point.
