Thread: Anti-Virus etc.

  1. #1

    Unhappy Anti-Virus etc.

I have a MacBook and when I bought it, I was told I didn't need any Anti-virus, anti-spam etc. so I thought great.

Then I was in a shop and I came across something: "Norton Internet Security for Mac!" I thought about what I was told when I bought the Mac and had slight doubts about it.

And since then, I've seem to think my MacBook is going slightly slower now, and I'm extremely paranoid that someone is hacking it or some dangerous virus is going to ruin my Mac. I don't know if this is just suspicion or if it is true. But why is there a Internet Security for Mac?
Do I actually need Internet Security for my Mac?

I'm running on OS X 10.5.1 the latest version anyway, and I have the 2nd newest MacBook available (the late 2007 edition)

I know very little about MACs themselves, but 99% of viruses are targeted to Windows. If your concerned about having a virus find something other than
Norton or McAfee for protection. They are both bloated resource hogs. There are several online scanners you can try first.

don't worry more than likely is that the Antivirus is the thing that's making your mac slow and the chances of you even finding a mac with a virus are slim to none

Max speaks the truth, but never say never on anything. Here's a little info for you. http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/ne...acosxleap.html

And you ask why is there an antivirus for sale for Macs? Why do cars have backup cameras in the the rear bumpers? Because people will pay for it.

The more MACs become popular, the more likely they will eventually be exploited. But I really don't hear of that happening too much today.
