CD thing wont work

My daughter in law has a toshiba laptop and when she inserts a CD in the laptop it does not read it. can anyone help?

Try cleaning the laser with some lens cleaner and a cotton bud and run over it gently with a tissue, this is the most common problem when a CD/DVD drive will not no longer read. If it still does not work replace your drive.
