Describe the network to us. How is everything conneced. Is the same PC causing you problems, or does this happen with ANY computer?

Any computer i connect freezes up. the cable is running off a 24-port switch. If i connect anyting else to it with a shorter cable (5 ft) it works just fine.

Are you positive you do not have a CROSSOVER cable?

If shorter cables work then your configuration is okay. Did you make this cable or is it store bought? If you made it, just snip off the ends and try re-stringing it. Sometimes the head pinches the next wire.

Let us know what you end up doing.

I have made a test cable, yes i make the cables myself, its about 100 ft long. i believe the ends are not right. they wiggle in the computer nic card port. but i have run out of ends right now. the cable i have now, when i connect it, the computer keeps switching from "lan connected" to "network cable is unplugged". its not a crossover cable. i still dont know why it would cause the system to totally freeze up

I have the same problem from time to time--not freezing--but if you don't apply the right pressure when crimpting the heads, then the cable won't work.

Buy some more heads and don't apply so much muscle--let the head fit snugly inside the NIC.

    Good work--hey, sometimes this happens.
