My laptop just stopped finding a internet connection do you know how i can fix this as the internet is on

What differ b(legacy)/g from b/g (drop down menu choice) in configuration settings of modem(internet gateway) for home, Thomson 585 v7 wifi b/g (and generally any internet gateway)?
