Partitioning hard disk of new sony vaio

    Hi everyone
I purchased a new sony vaio SR55 laptop yesteray. It came with Win7 pre-installed, but without win7 cd.
I need to make a recovery disk after initial setup.

    My questions are:
    1. Is dvd a good medium for creating the recovery disk?
    2. Since I am a diehard XP loyalist, what is the procedure for making a partition for running XP, in addition to win7? I dont have win7 disk.

Thx in advance for all your help. I will not forget to thank you afterwards also. (I read your instructions thro and thro )

    Rgds

It would be appropriate to include details of your wireless card considering you have mentioned that injection works and that Dell laptops can sometimes use different wireless cards on the same model of laptop

Generally with my Microsoft readings, it's recommended from them to install the older operating system first and then the newer one. Even if you are doing a dual boot system on two partitions or with two separate hard drives. It has to do with the boot.ini file.

With that said, it would be best if you could make a recovery DVD of your current Windows 7 installation and test that recovery disk. It is key you test your recovery disk to ensure when you wipe your hard drive, you can get Windows 7 back. Also, do you have your Windows 7 license key stuck on your tower?

So this is what I would do...

1.) Create system disk of current Windows 7 installation.
    2.) Test that system disk.
3.) If test passes, wipe the hard drive booting from the XP CD by deleting all partitions. Create a partition for the XP installation. Make sure to NOT use the whole hard drive when you do this as this is the whole point of this endeavor.
    4.) Install Windows XP.
5.) Once the XP Installation is 100 percent operational, boot from the Windows 7 disk that you made.
6.) Create a partition for the Windows 7 installation using the unallocated sectors from the previous set up with XP.
7.) Install and then fully configure windows 7.

When that is completely done, you will have a dual boot system with windows 7 and XP.

Keep in mind however, some Windows 7 version allows for Windows XP Emulation mode. This is a fancy way of saying there is a Windows XP virtual machine embedded in the Operating System.

    Thx, Sooky.
I was not very sure whether it is safe to do this without a win7 disk in hand. Now you have given me the confidence.

    Thx again & bye.

securesupo, please read the posts carefully. The poster is using a Sony Vaio not a Dell.
